2009 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz Wine pairing with Président Camembert Cheese - Cheese & Alcohol Pairings

2009 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz

Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz is a greatly loved chocolaty style wine with great generosity of fruit and ample structure. Not surprisingly it is delicious to drink with the Président Camembert. The intensely concentrated creamy complexity of this soft cheese demands something that has presence and textural length.

Its signature characters of abundant fruit, ripe fleshy palate and generosity of flavour, is one of the most popular wines in Penfolds portfolio. First produced in 1959, Bin 28 is Penfolds earliest Bin-range wine. The earliest releases were single vineyard wines made from the renowned Kalimna Vineyard located in the Barossa Valley.

Kalimna is now a trademarked name, but its history is steeped in the beginnings of South Australia’s colonial wine industry. The 2009 Bin 28 Shiraz, still available as a cellar release, is a classically structured wine with brooding deep dark berry, chocolate, sweet fruit aromas, lovely supple sweet blackberry, raspberry, brambly pane forte flavours, velvety tannins and underlying savoury notes.
